Cost is held layer by layer
Inventory cost is not one average number. On a FIFO item every receipt forms a layer at its own cost and issues consume the oldest layer first, so cost of goods sold really is the cost of that batch.
On weighted-average items each receipt updates the average. The method is chosen per item. LIFO is not implemented, because Turkish tax law does not accept it.
Lot traceability exists for recalls
For food, chemical and pharmaceutical producers, knowing where a batch went is a legal obligation. Lot numbers are captured at receipt, linked to output lots in production and passed to the customer on despatch. When something goes wrong, one query shows which customer received how much from which batch.
